1) 2 half-marathons: I can run about three miles right now so I have a way to go to get to 13.1. It’s difficult to choose races right now since I don’t have a regular work schedule. I’m making a list of possible half marathons in and around Bend, Eugene, Portland, and Reno since those are the easiest places for me to access without too much advance notice. I’m hoping to do these w/ other people (Nick, Chelsea, Bridget?!)…races are always more fun for me w/ friends. I’m looking at using this website that Chelsea recommended (http://www.halhigdon.com) for a training schedule.
2) 2 triathlons: I definitely want to do the Deschutes Dash again for comparison purposes, not to mention the bike portion is a beautiful route and the swim is down river! Same basic principles apply as the ½ marathons (better w/ friends, fit in w/ work schedule as I go along, looking for easily accessible races). I loved the book that I used for the ’08 Deschutes Dash, “The 12 Week Triathlete” by Tom Holland, and will definitely use that to train for the triathlons again. Will be using Terry Laughlin book/DVD for swim improvement.
3) Complete the 100 pushup challenge: (http://hundredpushups.com/challenge.html)
4) Complete one of the Fresh Air Sports duathlon series under 1:06:00: Out of five sprint duathlons last year my best time was 1:12:42 (best run split was 26:54, best bike split was 45:27). Planning to buy aerobars and hoping that will help shave off a little time in addition to my workouts in training for the ½ marathons and tris.
5) Run a 7:30 minute mile on the track: I haven’t done a track workout since high school…this one should be interesting.
6) Snowshoe 15 of the 17 routes near Bend that are outlined in the book “Snowshoe Routes Oregon” by Shea Andersen: Still need to buy snoeshoes, snow boots, gaiters, and a Winter Forest pass.
7) Cross country ski 10 times: Just need the forest pass to get going on this…and willpower.
8.) Take 2, four night backpacking trips: Finally have most of my own gear that I need for this. Hoping to do this w/ someone, as well…Wendy, Val?!
9) Complete Deschutes Dash Tri time in 25 fewer minutes than last year: Last year’s total time was 03:05:20:1.
10) Learn 4 new hoop tricks: Lynn gave me a beautiful hoop and showed me a few basics. There are lots of instructional clips on the internet and I know Lynn likes the Hoop Girl DVDs so I’ll try those for ideas.
