Time flies… March 29, 2009

…when your running or not working out and I’ve had my fair share of both in the last 2 weeks.  The 16th I was back on the bike trainer: 1 hour, 13.83 miles, avg 13.7, max 17.6.  I managed this at some unthinkable hour of the morning so I ended up running the same day, as well (46 min).  Two workouts in one day, unheard of!  Unless you’re Nick who seems to manage 2 a day on a regular basis.  Sigh.  Snowboarded the following day, but going into a work “week” (I use that term loosely since I only work 3 days/week) I figured I better do a real work out since I generally miss at least one when I’m working.  Good thing, too because then I skipped the next 4 days.  Wow, I suck.

I had a much better week the 22nd-29th though.  The first Sunday I decided to pick up the distance and ran my usual route, plus the dirt trail portion on the far end of Farewell Bend park (1 hour, 8 min; approx. 7 miles…really, I would have guessed 8, but the shady map I drew on mapmyride.com puts it closer to 7).  Next day I met up w/ Gina and Annalee for the regular Old Mill Loop version of the run (45 min) and the day after that I was back on the bike trainer, but not for long.  After 30 min (7.32 mile, 14.6 avg, 17.2 max) I was so over it.  Nothing for Wed. except for the seemingly bazillion miles I assume I walk while I’m at work.  Thursday I did the longer 7 mile run loop again and surprisingly to me in the same time.  Friday the “funning” continued w/ Nick and Rob on the Old Mill standard loop at 38 minutes and Saturday was the same run (except the starting point was my house instead of DVA) at 42 minutes.  Today I hauled out the bike trainer (I swore on Tuesday that I had put it away for the season and would hit the streets, but it got really cold and windy the past few days…argh!): 45 min, 10.94 mile, 14.5 avg, 17.6 max.  The good news is I did it to my swim instruction DVD so I was kinda hitting 2 birds w/ one stone because I was mentally preparing for my first pool workout of the season which will be tomorrow.  I’m sure I’ll have something to say about that!

Seeing how we’re 2 days away from the end of March, that puts us a fourth of the way through the year that we’ve alloted to accomplish our goals.  Let the panic begin!

 

Bachelor March 15, 2009

Valerie invited me to Mt. Bachelor w/ her on Saturday and I had a fabulous time!  Between the packed snow in the morning and my newly waxed board, the runs were a little intimidating to start.  A storm rolled in and put some nice powder down in the afternoon so the run conditions went from good to practically perfect in no time.  The mountain was quiet; maybe the threat of the storm kept the crowds away.  The storm wasn’t anything to miss a great day on the mountain over though!  We traversed back and forth across the mountain, taking 3 different lifts and numerous different runs.  Valerie also brought her friend, Susan, and she was quite lively!  We spent about five hours on the mountain…ahhhh!

 

Last week rocked; this week not so much March 14, 2009

So last week I did five days in a row and I was so happy with myself.  I continued Tues. with the bike trainer: 1 hour 3 minutes, 14.95 miles, avg 14.1, max 18.4.  I found that I can bike just as hard and far watching Planet Earth as I can to Race Day.  That’s good b/c as much as I enjoy Robbie’s company (he’s so cute!), I’m totally addicted to the PE series.  The footage is unbelievable and totally inspiring.  I get really sad when one animal eats another one though or they freeze or starve.   And I get really out-of-sorts with the havoc created by mankind on the planet, but this doesn’t have anything to do w/ workouts.  So Wed. I did the FootZone run: 4.7 miles and 43 minutes with Nick and Amy.  Thursday I was back on the bike trainer w/ Planet Earth: 1 hour 1 minute, 15.06 miles, 14.8 avg, 17.1 max.

This week I started Sunday with a 45 minute bike trainer ride: 45 minutes, 11 miles, 14.6 avg, and 18.3 max.  Monday I went snowboarding w/ Jaylynn and her three boys, Matt, and Jodie (my co-worker friends).  Ah, so fun!  We did about five hours of snowboarding and the powder getting out to the NW lift was crazy.  It was all fluffy snow drifts and it made falling a dream!  What a great day.  I was feeling so good about snowboarding afterward that I finally took my snowboard to Joe’s Sporting in town to have it tuned and waxed.  I hadn’t wanted to put any $ into this hobby b/c I wasn’t sure if I would stick w/ it since I sucked so bad.  I really love going though and after I bought boots, pants, a coat, and a helmet, tuning and waxing were the next logical step.  My board is a hand-me-down from Cindy…I’ve had it for about 3 years and it was probably in Chrissy’s closet a couple of years before that.  I never had it waxed before and there are some decent scratches on the bottom.  I’m so excited to get it back and take it out.  Work took the applesauce out of me so no workouts for Tues, Wed, Thurs.  Ugh.  Friday I finally made it back to Mary Yax’s running group though after quite the absense.  There turned out to be just 3 of us.  I finally met Boo who I’ve heard about several times and the best part was I finally got to spend time again w/ Annalee!  Oh my gosh, I missed her.  So we did the Old Mill Loop, approximately 45 minutes, and it was great to catch up.

Saturday.  Nick and Rob are running a 10K today so a shout-out to them for a good race.  Valerie invited me up to the mt. w/ her so I’m super excited about that.  I only realized at 3:30 this morning that my snowboard is still at Joe’s though.  Shoot!  They haven’t called yet to tell me it’s ready and I totally forgot it was there so I’m just waiting for the store to open up at 8am and hoping that my board is done.  Keeping my fingers crossed…

 

A good start March 2, 2009

Since I sk*pped (bad word) so many workouts last week I’m trying to make a comeback this week.  So far, so good.  Sunday I did Race Day w/ Robbie on the bike trainer: 1hour, 3min; 14.11 miles; avg 13.4; max 34.9 (b/c I forgot to put the resistance on when I first started!…yeah, I had to restart the video).  Today I met up w/ Nick and Rob for a rainy day run on the Old Mill Loop: 41 min, 5.3 miles (according to Rob’s blog).

 

Agh, skipping workouts! March 2, 2009

Friday the 20th I did another 45 minute run, but then I skipped Saturday and Sunday.  I went snowboarding for about six hours on Monday the 23rd…it was totally awesome b/c it was w/ my great co-workers Jaylynn, Megan, Jodie, Matt, and Allison.  We took the NW Express lift a few times which was sweet b/c I’ve never been on it and it leads to some beautiful runs.  On Tuesday I did the bike trainer to music on the radio right before work: 30 minutes, 7.16 miles, max 16.6, avg. 14.3.  I skipped Wed. and did a 46 min run on the usual route for Thursday.  I skipped Friday and went snowboarding w/ Nick, Val, and Rob for 2.5 hours on Saturday.  I didn’t do anything else on Saturday so that was a semi-skip day, too.  I hope to never see the ’s’ word this many times in another one of my blogs again (at least not until I finish the tris, dus, and 1/2s).
